By: Gabrielle Muniz

Summer is coming to an end, but that means that the wonderful autumn season can begin!  Everything will be pumpkin flavored, the weather will get cooler, and Halloween will be here before you know it. Here are 5 movies to get you into the fall spirit!

1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

If you know about the Salem Witch Trials, then you know that Salem, Massachusetts is the heart of autumn and Halloween. You can find so many beautiful shots of Salem in this movie and there are plenty of leaves and pumpkins to keep you in the autumn spirit. Let the nostalgia sink in for all of those 20-somethings who grew up with this movie. It’s about three witches who are resurrected and aim to live forever by sucking the life forces out of children. It’s funny, goofy, and filled with Halloween vibes to get you excited for fall.

2. Mean Girls (2004)

Though there’s only one Halloween party in this movie, this movie does have a lot to do with going back to school. Once it’s September, that means that you have to get ready for the tests, essays, and reading for the new school year. What better way to get yourself ready than to watch the funniest possible back-to-school situations? Just remember to wear pink if you decide to watch it on a Wednesday.

3. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

Why not try an old-fashioned animated special for the family? The iconic Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween with pumpkin picking, trick-or-treating, and a Halloween party. It airs annually on ABC, so you’re bound to catch it during the fall season. So, eat some candy corn and watch a holiday treat with the whole family.

4. The Crow (1994)

If you love the dark and gothic elements of fall and Halloween, then you should definitely watch The Crow. Based on a comic book, the movie is about a rock star that comes back to life and seeks revenge for his and his fiancée’s murder. The late and great Brandon Lee is hauntingly brilliant in the title role, which makes you even more so sucked into the movie. The movie also takes place on Halloween, so you’ll really enjoy every bloody, grim, and dramatic moment that just screams the fall season.

5. Any Christmas, Hanukkah, or Holiday Movie

If you’re anything like me, then you love the holidays. Once fall comes around, I know that the holidays are right around the corner. I celebrate Christmas, so you’ll find me listening to Christmas music and doing Christmas shopping as early as now. To get into the holiday spirit, remind yourself that autumn is a stepping stone to those big celebrations. You’ll be surprised how quickly the weather goes from leaves falling to snow falling!
