Top 10 Adulting Problems

By: Gabrielle Muniz

When you’re facing adulthood, you’re facing more than what you bargained for.  Here are 10 problems that go hand-in-hand with becoming an adult.

1. Needing a job

Not many people can easily find a job. We are told that working hard and making money are the two most important things to do as an adult. Once push comes to shove, it’s pretty hard to find the job that provides a good salary and is enjoyable.

2. Needing Money

It’s harder to make money than it is to spend it.  If you’re lucky enough to find a job, then you have the chance to pay student loans, bills, and buy enough food to survive. You can’t afford much else, but at least you’re working like an adult.

3. Having No Social Life

Whether you work one job or multiple jobs, it’s hard to keep in touch with other people. Your family and friends see less of you because of all of your commitments. At least you have Facebook to keep in touch.

4. All of that Marriage Pressure

How many times have you been asked about marriage in the past year? Once you become an adult, it seems as though everyone else is more concerned about your love life than you are.  Who has room for a relationship when you have your own sanity to maintain?

5. Fitting in

When you’re in your 20’s, it’s hard to find a real identity.  Sometimes, you feel like a kid, but other times you feel like an old person. You try to find a happy medium by being an adult in public, but being a kid when you see a comic book movie or are Netflixing all weekend.

6. Sleeping…or Not

You have become very familiar with sleepless nights. If not, you’ve at least faced nights where tossing and turning is a regularly occurring thing. So much for going to bed whenever you want to.

7. All of that Stress

So much to worry about, so little time. All of your responsibilities and worries pile up until you explode, but not in public, of course.

8. Eating All the Food

Let’s face it: food is a great stress reducer. It’s so hard to be responsible with food when you’re free to buy whatever you want with your hard-earned money. You’d easily choose a giant jar of Nutella over some roasted chicken for dinner. Priorities, right?

9. Trying to be Independent

It can be pretty scary to do things on your own, especially if you don’t have much confidence.  Just let the panic attacks come and go so that you can make it to work on time or get that essay finished. Always dust yourself off and try again.

10. The Pain of Nostalgia

Ah, the good old days. Being a child means that you have so few things to worry about. You find yourself looking back on how easy you used to have it, which makes adulthood harder to bear.
